Online Mapping Services at K-State
K-State GIScience Commons and other GIS research groups on campus are hosting the following online mapping services:
- Agricultural Pest Spread Model – An ArcGIS Server application developed by the US Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), KSU Office of Mediated Education, and the Geographic Information Systems Spatial Analysis Laboratory (GISSAL) that models the possible spread of an agricultural pest once it enters the United States. The application is available to risk assessors in APHIS and their partners at state agricultural agencies monitoring pest movement in the country.
- Animal Carcass Disposal Site Suitability Analysis – This ArcGIS Server application produced by the Geographic Information Systems Spatial Analysis Laboratory (GISSAL) in the Department of Geography that shows the results of a site suitability analysis model for mass animal carcass burial based on criteria developed by the Kansas Department of Health and the Environment (KDHE). Currently, the extent of this analysis is limited to the eighteen counties in southwestern Kansas. Site currently being revised.
- Antilles Regional Map Server – This ArcGIS Server application produced by the Geographic Information Systems Spatial Analysis Laboratory (GISSAL) in the Department of Geography that shows a variety of cultural, physical, and biological geographic datasets for the Caribbean region collected through the second Bowman Expedition program (Place-based Research in the Antilles) sponsored by the American Geographical Society.
- Central Plains Virtual Observatory – Environmental and ecological data related to the High Plains Aquifer and surrounding region.
- Impact of Landcover Change on Hantavirus in South America – An ArcGIS Server application supporting a National Institutes of Health funded project examining the influence of anthropogenic landcover change on the ecology of Hantavirus. Produced jointly by the Geographic Information Systems Spatial Analysis Laboratory (GISSAL) and Remote Sensing Research Laboratory in the Department of Geography, this site features a variety of rodent sampling and environmental datasets for the nation of Paraguay, including the locations of seropositive and RNA positive rodent captures. Site currently being revised.
- Geography of Kansas – An ArcGIS Server application assembled by the Geographic Information Systems Spatial Analysis Laboratory (GISSAL) containing a broad sample of environmental and cultural data for the State of Kansas including ecoregions, soils, landcover, topography, population, surface water resources, and ground water resources. This application was derived from a series of maps produced by the Department of Geography for a K-State custom text produced for GEOG 221 Environmental Geography I.
- K-State Fisheries Ecology Map Viewer – A depiction of field sites of fish sampling locations for ecological studies and relationships to various geological and chemical properties of their corresponding streams, and predicted distributions of several fish species on those streams.
- K-State Herbarium Map Viewer – County level distribution of plant specimens from the collection of the Kansas State University Herbarium.
- K-State Museum of Entomological and Prairie Arthropod Research Collection – County level distribution of insect specimens from the collection of the K-State Museum of Entomological and Prairie Arthropod Research (MEPAR).
- Konza Prairie LTER – Various map viewers of research data from the Konza Prairie Long Term Ecological Research area.
- Poisonous Plants of Kansas – This application allows viewers to map the distribution by county of poisonous plants in the state of Kansas and view syndromes related to livestock illnesses that might be caused by such plants.
- Rabies in Kansas – Rabies occurrences in Kansas counties, classified by infected species and season of occurrence. Site currently being revised.
- Range and Training Land Assessment Map Server – An ArcGIS Server application developed by the Geographic Information Systems Spatial Analysis Laboratory (GISSAL) and Fort Riley RTLA Program that delivers maps to communicate issues surrounding the sustainability of military training lands.
- Soybean Aphid (Aphis glycines) Map Viewer 2000-2003 – The soybean aphid (Aphis glycines Matsumura), or SBA, is native to China and Japan and has been found from Korea to the Philippines and Australia. SBA was positively confirmed in 11 states within the U.S. in August 2000. A serious threat to soybean production, SBA is a known vector for several soybean diseases (e.g., soybean mosaic virus) and has the potential to serve as a bioterrorism agent through genetic modification. Site currently being revised.
